This course will focus on best practices for individual school finance and

accounting. Topics covered will include cash management, payroll, and accounts

payable. We will discuss the importance of establishing strong internal controls and

financial record keeping. We will briefly touch on the budgeting process and allotments.


Presenter: Deborah Frisby – I started my career in school finance in 1984 as a payroll

clerk at Buncombe County Schools for three years. In 1991, I started working at

Madison County Schools as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). I worked there for 23

years and then moved to Buncombe County Schools as their CFO in January 2014. I

retired on June 1, 2021 with 33 years of experience. In September 2021, I became an

independent contractor/consultant and now provide training for new finance officers.
