What’s Equity Got to Do With It? Centering Equity into Problem Gambling Prevention

Tuesday, Oct 22nd, from 10:30 AM ET to 12:00 PM ET (Virtual)

We know health equity should be central to the work we do and incorporated into our organizations, our work with others, and ourselves, but it doesn’t always happen. This interactive training will explore key concepts in centering health equity into our work, enhancing our cultural proficiency, understanding complex factors influencing community health, and examining the historical and policy influences shaping our communities today. Together we will explore ways to apply these concepts to our work that will foster our mission of creating healthy environments for all.

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define and describe common concepts and words associated with disparities, health equity, and cultural-linguistic responsiveness
  • Describe how structural and institutional factors impact community health
  • Identify how discrimination and oppression of all kinds are a threat to the health of communities
  • Identify ways to apply health equity and cultural responsiveness to our work to improve the individuals we serve and the overall community’s health

CEUs

Upon completion of the training and receipt of your evaluation survey, participants of What’s Equity Got To Do With It? Centering Equity into Problem Gambling Prevention can receive a certificate of completion or CPS credits.

The Massachusetts Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling Prevention (MCOEPGP) provides capacity building, training, and resource development services to address the prevention of problem gambling and related health issues such as the prevention of substance misuse, suicide, and violence. The MCOE PGP approach is rooted in public health and utilizes the social-ecological model – incorporating the individual, family, and community – as a framework for its work. This approach is in alignment with evidence-based practices that require authentic community engagement, the use of an explicit equity lens and addressing the economic and social conditions that influence the health of people and communities, known as the social determinants of health.
