Class description:

IBC provides basic concepts of disabled accessible design and construction using the International Building Code and ICC A117.1 as it relates to non-residential structures. The first portion of the class will discuss WHEN accessible features are required by the IBC. The remainder of the class will be devoted to HOW a building and its site is made accessible by the A117.1 Standard. This class is intended for the code user who is either new to accessible design or is in need of a refresher on the ever-changing requirements. Application of accessibility requirements for existing buildings will be discussed.

This class will look at not just what the International Energy Conservation Code requires for residential buildings, but also how to apply those requirements in the real world. We will see how things look in real buildings with pictures from actual plan review and inspections. Focus will be on understanding the correlation of the Fire Code chapters required through IBC . The class is designed to provide introductory information for the student be able to apply a systematic approach to fire and life safety plan review utilizing the IBC and IFC and understand the interdependency and application of the IBC and IFC; gain knowledge of how fire behavior impacts IBC and IFC requirements; and, foster the idea of collaboration.

• Exercises will focus on site plan review for fire access, water supply, hydrants and special fire protection needs (key boxes, FDC requirements, signage etc.) as well as architectural review for code analysis adequacy, Occupancy classification, means of egress, fire-resistive compartmentalization, hazardous conditions, need for fire-protection systems, evaluation of mechanical systems for smoke and fire control, fire protection system plan document requirements and the use of various plan review checklists.

Class description:

Take the building science concepts learned in the residential course and apply them to a commercial building as we maneuver through the complexities in the commercial provisions of the IECC. We can't possibly look at it all so let's see how commercial buildings use energy and figure out which requirements yield the highest impacts on a building's efficiency. We'll take a "top 10" approach to energy code compliance for commercial buildings and then figure out what we might be able to add on later as we learn more.

A comprehensive study of all phases of residential construction geared toward the Permit Tech. Construction and inspection process, and terminology will be covered in depth. the 2024 IRC structural provisions. The course is meant to be interactive with dialogue regarding the revisions that have been made and how those changes impact structural designers, construction trades and building officials. There will be various building materials and pertinent code sections covered.

Class description:

This interactive class will build on the basic concepts of fire resistance rated construction and the penetrations and openings found within that construction. It is intended to be an educational, yet entertaining, day which will include hands on learning where attendees will be presented with guidance on how to use UL’s on-line tool, UL ProductiQ, to locate and understand fire rated assemblies and how to apply that knowledge in real world applications.

Participants will work to enhance knowledge related to the proper assemblies and what allowances are acceptable using the UL guide information related to fire resistance. Attendees will use review common field application practices via photos and mock up assemblies to further their knowledge of installation, inspection and maintenance of fire-resistant construction assemblies and the tested assemblies used to seal breaches in construction. All of this will provide an understanding of the basic inspection of firestopping will help code officials when they are witnessing these tests in the field.
