This one-day class is intended to introduce the student to the applicability and interdependency of the IBC and IFC. Focus will be on understanding the correlation of the Fire Code chapters required through IBC . The class is designed to provide introductory information for the student be able to apply a systematic approach to fire and life safety plan review utilizing the IBC and IFC and understand the interdependency and application of the IBC and IFC; gain knowledge of how fire behavior impacts IBC and IFC requirements; and, foster the idea of collaboration.

This interactive class will build on the basic concepts of fire resistance rated construction and the penetrations and openings found within that construction. It is intended to be an educational, yet entertaining, day which will include hands on learning where attendees will be presented with guidance on how to use UL’s on-line tool, UL ProductiQ, to locate and understand fire rated assemblies and how to apply that knowledge in real world applications.

Participants will work to enhance knowledge related to the proper assemblies and what allowances are acceptable using the UL guide information related to fire resistance. Attendees will use review common field application practices via photos and mock up assemblies to further their knowledge of installation, inspection and maintenance of fire-resistant construction assemblies and the tested assemblies used to seal breaches in construction. All of this will provide an understanding of the basic inspection of firestopping will help code officials when they are witnessing these tests in the field.
