FNIHB CHR STBBI & TB Training

Spots are limited, registration deadline is January 8th, 2024 - Register now to secure your spot!

On behalf of First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB), Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council (KTC) invites frontline community health support staff to participate in a special training event focused on community health promotion and awareness in the areas of Tuberculosis (TB) and Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infections (STBBI).

  • Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infections rates in Alberta are high. Some First Nations communities in Alberta are reaching outbreak numbers.
  • Tuberculosis is an infection caused by slow-growing bacteria and is spread when a person with TB disease of the lungs coughs the germs into the air. People sharing that air may breathe in the germs and develop TB infection, which may progress to TB disease. Medications can prevent TB infection from turning into TB disease. Medications can also cure TB disease.

The training is targeted to frontline community health support workers like CHRs, DOT workers and HCAs (or whomever is the best candidate from your community - note this training is not developed for nurses). Both days will consist of presentations, discussion and the sharing of ideas and information designed to enhance the learner’s knowledge, skills and comfort level in building community awareness and health promotion activities related to TB and STBBI.

We invite each community to register 2 unregulated Health Providers / Frontline Health Supports to attend whom will benefit by the trainings to enhance the STBBI & TB programs in your community. The locations are divided into two areas (central and south Alberta) and you have been invited to attend the training being offered closest to your area. We are unable to accommodate selection of other locations as they are pre-planned and determined for classroom size accordingly.

  • Jan 23-24: Edmonton
  • Feb 6-7: Calgary

KTC will cover registration, material costs, and on-site meals during training. We will also cover costs for travel and/or hotel accommodation for those travelling over 60 km one-way, which will be reimbursed to your community after the training.

PLEASE READ RULES & REGULATIONS BEFORE CONTACTING US. THIS PAGE SHOULD ANSWER ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS.
