3-Hour CMTE

PRESENTER: Tom Krasner, MT-BC, MMT

ABSTRACT: As music therapy continues to develop into the 21st century, it is essential that innovative clinical practice adapt to music technology. A new songwriting approach presented here, called vertical songwriting, utilizes digital sampling technology to create a unique type of music-first composition that allows users to intensely explore their self-concept through both process- and product-oriented procedures. This CMTE will (1) explore the research of self-concept, (2) review the history and techniques of digital sampling, and (3) show how the two can be combined using music therapy.
